It's clear to us that user testimonials are an extremely powerful tool to increase the conversion rate of various sections of our websites:
- your home page relies on testimonials that generally espouse your company and the great work it does at solving your customer's pain;
- your signup pages gain a huge boost from displaying the right testimonial which will nudge a curious prospect over the edge and into your product;
- your product pages gain an immeasurable advantage by displaying reviews that speak directly about the products shown on that page;
That's why we've created the latest innovation in Review Marketing: Smart Tags.
What are Smart Tags?
Smart Tags enable you to display reviews with specific keywords (which you tag in ReviewEmbed) on pages which match that keyword.
I love cake, and one of my favourite customers at ReviewEmbed is www.crepecorneronline.com, which is a Crepe House focused on authentic belgian waffles. Specifically, their menu highlights Sweet crepes, Savory crepes and waffles.
Naturally, the entire menu is delicious, and Crepe Corner constantly receives reviews about how great their sweet crepes are, or how the savory crepes are to die for, or how soft the waffles are. These are user stories contained (and until today, locked) inside of the reviews your business works hard to get.
Today, you can put those reviews to work by using Smart Tags.
Crepe Corner is now able to display reviews specifically about Savory crepes on their /savory-crepes page, and only reviews about their delicious Sweet crepes on their -sweet-crepes page, and of course show only reviews about their waffles on the /waffles page. 🔥
How to use Smart Tags
In the Reviews section, you'll notice the ability to add a tag to any review displayed. This is how you denote which keyword you want to attach a particular review to.
At this stage, it's a good idea to take a second and consider which pages your website relies on, and where you expect to display reviews.
As mentioned above, a few ideas for where to use Smart Tags are:
- your home page
- your signup pages
- your product pages
- category pages
In the case of Crepe Corner, they'd tag all reviews about Savory crepes as "savory-crepes" which matches the category page they use on their website.
Reviews will be shown if the keyword used in a tag you create is present in your URL. It doesn't need to match entirely -- which is great for using either on specific pages, or in conjunction with UTM tags when creating and managing ads.
Here's the basic process:
- Note down the URL of the page you wish to show specific reviews on (i.e. crepecorneronline.com/savory-crepes).
- Keep the unique part of the page's URL ("savory-crepes") including any hyphens, slashes or underscores.
- Create tags using that keyword (i.e. "savory-crepes") on reviews that match that category (in this case, any reviews about how great the savory crepes are).
That's all you have to do -- by design, the reviews shown on your widget will verify if a tag is present anywhere in the URL. The reviews will be shown if the keyword you've used in a tag is present in the URL. If so, only the reviews with that tag will be displayed.
And you are free to create many tags for the same reviews, at your convenience. 🚀
Give it a go -- take a look at your URLs and ask yourself: what kind of tag can I create and which reviews have I been receiving?
You might find that you're either:
- Getting the right kinds of reviews for what you offer and can use Smart Tags to elevate your website so each page has reviews to match its content; or
- You may find that the reviews you're receiving aren't matching to what you're offering, in which case you are more likely to find some success focusing on a campaign or two which has the potential to acquire more reviews of a specific kind.
